| Nothing is more frustrating for parents than to see their children come home from school every day with a sad face because of difficulty adjusting to classroom routines and requirements. Learning disabilities can hamper the social, emotional and academic growth of children. Healing Pathways Medical Clinic offers therapeutic treatment of learning disabilities, emotional challenges and family stresses in children who have special education needs.Although learning and emotional problems can first become apparent as early as preschool or kindergarten, they may not occur until children must contend with more rigorous academic demands in middle school. Without professional help, parents may be unable to determine whether their child is having difficulty in school due to a learning disability, or an emotional problem in its early phase, or both. These problems need to be properly diagnosed and treated comprehensively in order to be resolved.
At Healing Pathways we can help parents sort all of this out by performing a diagnostic assessment on the child that can include a psychiatric assessment, a psycho-educational assessment, a family assessment, or a combination of the three. Our clinicians believe that interaction with the school system is a critically important component of any corrective growth and development plan for children. We exert every effort to work cooperatively with the school that the child attends. Our therapeutic plan may include recommendations for an individual educational program (IEP ), assignment to a student study team (SST), discussions with the child’s teachers or school administrators if appropriate, and — if necessary — recommendations to a parent’s legal counsel. Numerous therapies are available to treat a child who is diagnosed with a psychiatric condition, and we routinely coordinate with other caregivers and educators to help maximize the value of treatment. We can help you gain an understanding of parents’ rights, as well as acquaint you with services that are available through public and private educational institutions.
