Behavior Analysis & Psychopharmacology

Board-certified behavior analysts and psychopharmacology to treat severe conditions

The science of applied behavior analysis (ABA) is a powerful means to help treat conditions that produce disturbing behavior. ABA is widely used in the treatment of autism, but offers effective interventions for many other conditions as well. Healing Pathways Medical Clinic collaborates with a team of two exceptional board-certified behavior analysts — Brenda Terzich-Garland, M.A., BCBA, cofounder of Applied Behavior Consultants Inc., and distinguished behavioral psychology professor Joseph Morrow, Ph.D. They work with us in treating children who exhibit defiance and other inappropriate behaviors that are resistant to other interventions.

We use applied behavior analysis by carefully and thoughtfully coordinating it with psychopharmacology medical treatment and meticulous data collection. ABA also has been instrumental in increasing functional communication in children with developmental disabilities.

This innovative multi-disciplinary intervention has proven so effective and popular that Applied Behavior Consultants and Healing Pathways have begun offering the service beyond the Sacramento area by means of telepsychiatry — interactive electronic communication methods. The Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), which was developed through the disciplines of speech therapy and ABA, is a technology that has attracted attention in scientific literature. This pioneering approach gives therapists and parents practical tools to help children communicate their wants and needs. Brenda Terzich-Garland is a certified PECS implementer and supervisor. She brings this capability and her many other skills to our network of highly trained clinical professionals who, through their collaboration, make Healing Pathways so unique and effective.

Healing Pathways also has expertise independent educational assessments and psycho-educational testing .
