| The world of the educator is intimately interwoven with the therapist and the mental health professional. Children and adolescents spend much of their day exposed to the influence of their environment, their teacher and their peers. These interactions away from home exert a significant and profound effect on their development of self-esteem, life skills, and overall general sense of well being. A rewarding educational experience is critically important for their future social, emotional, developmental, academic and occupational success.One of the missions of Healing Pathways Medical Clinic is to furnish up-to-date, and state-of-the-art, educational in-services to teachers, who have such a profound effect on their students.
Teachers have access to an abundance of support and continuing education programs in addition to services that school districts offer to their own teaching personnel. Independent tutoring services, “learning centers” and various other supportive systems often come with a significant cost. Healing Pathways is developing a learning center curriculum focusing on educational assistance skills and tutoring at affordable cost. In many environments such as foster family agencies, group homes, nonpublic schools, ED classrooms within public schools, and detention facilities, paraprofessionals who are supposed to assist teachers often have little or no training in skills that should be required in such environments. Healing Pathways is committed to administering a training program geared to the paraprofessional in these environments. Our curriculum equips participants with a core basic knowledge and competency in required skills. The paraprofessional training course is a series of 10 two-hour training sessions that is available in three formats: an in-person presentation by a skilled professional; on DVD; or through the Internet. Each two-hour presentation includes a pre- and post-test, as well as certification upon successful completion. We can guide you on your path to greater self-confidence and stability, to attainment of personal growth enabling you to become the person you would like to be.
