Mainstream treatment methods
Conventional, time-tested, effective therapeutic techniques
The mental health professionals at Healing Pathways Medical Clinic Inc. have expertise in a broad range of conventional, evidence-based psychotherapy approaches.

They include:

  • Pharmacotherapy — the practice of using medication to treat illness. Some mental health conditions respond best to thoughtfully prescribed medications in combination with cognitive behavioral therapy or some other form of therapy.
  • Cognitive behavioral therapy — a highly regarded, evidence-based psychotherapeutic approach. This therapeutic method can treat anxiety, personality, eating, substance abuse, mood and psychotic disorders.
  • Dialectical behavioral therapy — a therapeutic approach that is effective in treating persons with borderline personality disorder. Dialectical behavioral therapy incorporates concepts of mindful awareness, distress tolerance and acceptance, largely derived from Buddhist meditative practice.
  • Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) — a powerful method of psychotherapy used to treat various kinds of psychological distress. This therapy method is effective in treating depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, poor self-image, stress, worry and stage fright.
  • Hypnotherapy — a widely accepted method for helping people make desired changes at the unconscious level. Hypnotherapy also can help treat phobias, addictions, obsessive-compulsive disorder and other conditions.
  • Family therapy — which can help resolve conflicts and improve communication, understanding and cooperation among family members. In addition to treating problems, family therapy can help prevent problems from occurring in the first place.
  • Applied behavior analysis — a discipline that is used to identify and rectify undesirable behaviors, as well as desirable behaviors that need to be taught and reinforced. It often is beneficial for children with behavioral and autism spectrum disorders.
  • Art therapy — a mental health profession that applies the creative process of art making to improve and enhance the physical, mental and emotional well-being of individuals of all ages. Art can significantly help people articulate concepts and thoughts that they find puzzling or difficult to discuss.

We invite you to learn about our complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) approaches and our special services, which include independent educational assessments and psychoeducational testing, and use of psychopharmacology in close conjunction with a board-certified behavior analyst in the treatment of individuals with severe and disabling behaviors and conditions.
